Which job to pick as a completely new player?

If you haven't finished your link skills, you should probably get started on those. This will give you the opportunity to try out a variety of classes. Most people will just tell you to play what you enjoy.
I would suggest a good overall class. Wind archer is really nice to mob and boss with, and dex % is cheap. You can also try I/L mage which is also good mobbing and bossing, and int % is cheap. Both I/L and WA are also great classes for farming Monster Park, which is what you would do (or at least try to do) at some point in your time playing in order to fund yourself.
In the end, the only thing that matters is your enjoyment of the class you play.
id say i/l mage isn't that good for monsterpark since horizontal movement isnt that great with just teleport, better of with kinesis also great for farming and mobbing
Mages are horrid for Monsterpark with the exception of Blazewizard and new 5th kinesis. If you really want to make the most meso/hour. Make a proper monsterpark mule and stick with it for a week. You might need the int legion from BW anyways

I disagree. My main (and farming MP mule) is a Battle Mage. I clear a run within 45-55 sec per run. Some mages are good at MP if you have good control.
Sure, if you love the class and want to stagnate at Knight Stronghold for 1.4b an hour while blazewizard makes double that in VJ. Even then Stronghold clear standard is 35sec.
