2017-10-14: Added where to get the gear already mentioned about previously and some clean up with the thread.
2017-10-23: Finished up most of the Accessories and Misc Section and a little more cleanup done.
2018-01-08: Improved the TL;DR and Accessory/Misc sections.
2018-04-24: Added how to unlock your pocket slot.
2018-04-28: Reformatted the guide and made minor changes here and there.
2018-05-25: Improved secondary section to include special cases. Thanks lolera222 for the heads up.
2018-05-27: Updated the Heart and Best in Slot sections to include Outlaw Heart.
2018-07-19: Updating to Xenforo format requirements,tables are no more.
2018-07-21: Accessory Section is back, looking to make large changes to the guide in case of 25*.

2019-03-24: Removing a lot of unnecessary stuff since 25* is laughably unattainable and inflation game is on point. Long overdue.

If you want best in slot, Song's guide. This is more of the long progression of gears and some talk about why on certain equips but some areas to talk of what is best when necessary. Meant more for beginners or an early reference.

You’re starting out, just made your first character to lvl 120-150 or somewhere in that general vicinity but now you’re faced with a dilemma. No more free gear from the gift box to keep you training on so you have to get some gear. Maybe you're early-mid game right now and are not sure where to go. Here’s a guide that may help you make some decisions on what you should get or reference Song's guide if you just want a best in slot guide.

This guide is just how you get gear, not on how you upgrade them (cubing, scrolling, starforce etc). For that I recommend Imperfect's guide here. This is also not a guide on how to get to bosses, nor how to do their prequests, i recommend the guide made by Spyro here.

Guide will be separated into a few parts.
1. Armour
2. Tyrants
3. Weapon Class Equipment
4. Accessories and Miscellaneous Equips

1. Armour
In the early game you have two options to consider for Armour. The Japanese/Sengoku set or going straight into the chaos root abyss set. If you are willing to be patient and do a bit of farming first it is better to skip the Japanese set and go into the fafnir/chaos root abyss set as it will last you until end game (excluding the weapon). If you do decide to buy the japanese set it is recommended you do not cube it and only use it until you can upgrade to chaos root abyss armour.

Japanese/Sengoku
All Japanese sets all start with the same prefix depending on the main class branch (warrior/thief etc). All Japanese gear including the weapons can be obtained from Madman Ranmaru. Since the set is tradeable you can buy them from other players in the auction house.

Warriors = Amaterasu’s
Mage = Ame-no-Uzume’s
Thief = Tsukuyomi’s
Archers = Oyamatsumi's
Pirates = Susano-o’s
There are 2 main downsides though most classes will only have one.

  • The first that affects all classes is that you need pretty much most of the set to get anything good from the set effect.
  • The second is that a few classes do not have access to Japanese weapons (possibly because the classes came after the set was released).
Once you are ready to move onto the next gear set you should make note that you can keep some of these gears for certain reasons.
  • Japanese Glove (Upgrade is too expensive)
  • Japanese Shoulder (Can be used as a drop gear)
  • Japanese Belt (Can be used as a drop gear)
Chaos Root Abyss
Chaos root abyss is the armour set you will be keeping until the end of time or when Nexon decides to release an armour set that has a top/bottom instead of an overall. The main downside to this set is that it can be a little bit expensive for people starting out but if you're willing to grind it out, its better as mentioned before to go straight into the chaos root abyss armour set.

The armour set is currently best in slot mainly for having an amazing set effect and having the highest-level top + bottom set. Only until much later on do you replace your hat (for Arcane Umbra Hat), top and bottom stay relevant even in end game.

This armour can be obtained from defeating the first 3 Chaos Root abyss bosses or you may purchase them from other players.
  • Chaos Crimson Queen for the hat
  • Chaos Pierre for the pants
  • Chaos Von Bon for the top
All the sets have the same prefix but the only different is the armour type:
Class (hat; top; bottom)
Warriors: (Royal Warrior Helm; Eagle Eye Warrior Armor; Trixter Warrior Pants)
Mages: (Royal Dunwitch Hat; Eagle Eye Dunwitch Robe; Trixter Dunwitch Pants)
Thieves: (Royal Assassin Hood; Eagle Eye Assassin Shirt; Trixter Assassin Pants)
Archers: (Royal Ranger Beret; Eagle Eye Ranger Cowl; Trixter Ranger Pants)
Pirates: (Royal Wanderer Hat; Eagle Eye Wanderer Coat; Trixter Wanderer Pants)

Tip for new players in regards to chaos root abyss set
If you wish to maximize the bang for your buck or don't have much money, it is recommended to buy 3 out of the 4 pieces of the CRA set and work on other things because the 4th piece only gives boss damage which if you aren’t doing bossing any time soon isn’t meaningful.

About 99% of the time it would be best to get hat, pants, and weapon as the top is typically the most expensive piece of gear.

Gloves
Since the Chaos Root Abyss set does not contain gloves, the next step from Japanese gloves would be AbsoLab gloves which can be purchased for 3 AbsoLab Coins (the lotus shop in Haven). Usually it's not recommended to get AbsoLab gloves unless you are aiming for the 3 piece AbsoLab set of Weapon, Shoulder and Glove. You can get AbsoLab Coins from fusing 1 S-core (Normal/Hard Lotus) and 50 A-cores (Easy lotus).

2. Tyrants

If there's a tyrant in an equip slot, it's the best possible equip in that slot without extreme funding (20* arcanes or 21*+ superior gollux belt). As of now there are four tyrant equips; shoes, cape, belt, and gloves. These items have Superior status which means that the starforce stat gain is many times better than any other piece of gear (and at around 5/6 stars gaining attack as well rather than stat on successful starforcing) resulting in pieces of armour that can reach 150atk and over 160 all stat without even considering scrolling once fully starred at 15* which is why they are considered they best.

You can get the shoes, cape and belt from Hard Magnus but the gloves are obtained from the Kritias shop.

It is advised to get Tyrant shoes, cape and belt first as it's unlikely you will upgrade to gloves as the only way to attain them is through Hekaton which can take well over a month of consistent running of the raid which occurs every 6hours unless you can maintain a high ranking (top 10).

Warriors = Tyrant Hyades
Archers = Tyrant Charon
Thieves = Tyrant Lycaon
Mages = Tyrant Hermes
Pirates = Tyrant Altair

3. Weapon Class Equipment
By weapon class equipment I mean any piece of equip that can cube for atk/boss/ied/dmg lines which includes your weapon, secondary and emblem. As a side note these should be the very first things you cube as getting 9% atk is much more valuable than getting 9% stat. You should cube your emblem and secondary first as those will last you to end game while your weapon will change unless you start with an arcane.

Emblem and Secondary
This is pretty limited for all classes because both of them only has one minor upgrade.

For your Emblem, the Gold Maple Leaf emblem that you get from reaching lvl 200 (a lvl 100 piece of equipment) is good to last you to end game but if you are trying to edge out some extra stats the Crystal Maple Leaf emblem from the Achievement shop is slightly better. (+5 all and +1atk/ma in comparison to Gold Maple Leaf)

For your Secondary, with the exception of a few classes, the lvl 100 secondary that you either get from leveling or purchasing from Neville the Secondary Weapon seller works fine until end game just like the Gold Maple Leaf. If you want to edge out a little bit the Black Secondary, which you can get from Belle in fm (the maple leaf trader), has -2 stats but gives an extra 2atk or ma for most secondaries (Some have weird stat changes so best to check first).

Mages who use Staff or Wand: It is best if you use a timeless (or fearless, not sure if added with the chaos pink bean) prelude which can drop from normal pink bean or crafted.
Shadower: You want to run a Deimos Shadow/Darkness Shield which you can get through crafting.
Kanna: You want to run another fan, as strong as you can get it (so Arcane Umbra).
Demon Slayer/Avenger: The one you get from hitting lvl 100 works fine but if you have the mesos, getting a Ruin Force Shield (Drops from Normal or Hard Damien) is much better.

Weapons
Weapons are a little more progressive compared to emblem and secondary and there are many upgrades you can go through that start from the start of early game to end game.

TL; DR (For most classes): Japanese/Sengoku < Fafnir (CRA set) < AbsoLab < Arcane Umbra

Japanese
Japanese is a part of the Japanese set mentioned above and like all other Japanese related items can drop from Madman Ranmaru. Unless your Fafnir weapon is super expensive and you can’t gather the funds to get your weapon it is best to not cube this (some Fafnir weapons are dirt cheap)

Fafnir (Chaos Root Abyss Set)
Fafnir weapons which are a part of the Chaos Root Abyss Set can be bought in fm from other players but is dropped at a chance from Chaos Vellum. This ideally should be your first main weapon that you should cube, bpot and superscroll unless you are really patient by moving straight into AbsoLab which typically has a 3-4b price attached for a clean weapon.

AbsoLab
AbsoLab weapons are typically bought through the Coin Vender in Haven for 8 AbsoLab coins. The coins can be made by fusing 50 A-tier Cores (dropped from Easy Lotus) and 1 S-tier (dropped by Normal/Hard lotus). You can get them from Damien but it’s a huge waste to do so as the equivalent of A cores are much harder to get.

Arcane Umbra
Arcane Umbra weapons can be bought through the Coin Vender in Lachelein, the city of dreams, for 24 Phantasma coins. The coins can be made by fusing 10 Arcane River Droplet stones (dropped by Easy Lucid) and 1 Butterfly droplet stone (dropped by Normal/Hard Lucid). Considering how Lucid is currently the 2nd hardest standard boss (not a 30-person raid like Hekaton is) the dpm and arcane force required to down the boss is quite high unless you have been playing for awhile.

The price of buying one is roughly 30-40b extremely expensive since it takes a total of 48days without missing a reset to get an Arcane weapon alongside the somewhat steep requirement to do the boss without even considering the arcane river droplets (easy lucid drop) which are 90-100m 300m+ each at this current time. [/s]

4. Accessories and Miscellaneous Equips
This is the largest section as this will involve everything else not previously mentioned. One thing to keep in mind is that even though most of these accessories aren't useful for mid-end game if you want the most damage or even early game for some of them, you can still use these gears for drop % (except the last 4 groups in this section). There isn't much to talk about for each individual slot so it's mostly a list of potentialable gears (if the slot can have potential).

If the accessory has a * beside it, it is best in slot for most characters. Demon avengers are the exception since sweetwaters are useless and boss set is much better.

Any sets that are noted as irrelevant are sets that are 99.99% of the time a waste of money regardless of funding.

The entire Misc Section will contain this format for all items

    • Key note 2: A recent change also done in V193 or V194 GMS: Scarlet Rings no longer count towards set effects if you already have the ring from that set, making Superior Gollux Pendant + Superior Gollux Pendant + Superior Gollux Ring + Scarlet Ring no longer possible.

Pocket Item
The pocket slot in maplestory is not immediately available (in all servers, not just in aries) and requires you to get lvl 30 charm before being able to do the quest from Big Headward that unlocks the slot for use. The quest you get from Big Headward is simply to get a Rose Clipping which you can buy from other players in the Auction House or harvest plants and they have a chance to drop the Rose Clipping.

Farming charm
There are two ways to farm for charm, the free way which takes about a week or two, or the paid way which can be done instantly. You can do both at the same time since they both just increase your charm.

The free method is to simply kill normal/chaos zakum and horntail and pick up their helmets (zakum) and pendents (horntail). Some equips such as these two give a small amount of charm exp. This method will take awhile since you have to equip each one and also the fact that you are limited to 2 of each difficulty each day.

The paid method is really to just buy a ton of transparent shoes (or miniskirts if you are female) from the cash shop and equip them since similarly to the zakum and horntail equips they give a small amount of charm. Any cash equip will do but the transparent shoes are the cheapest.

Heart
Hearts unlike the rest of the gear can only be obtained from other players or from the dp shop (with the exception of the Lidium Heart). Since they require dp to purchase (excluding Lidium), they can be quite expensive to purchase so it wouldn't be a terrible idea to hold off on purchasing one until you have your other gears finished such as making your +10 Fafnir/AbsoLab weapon and other gears finished first.

  • Lidium Heart
    • Level 30
    • None
    • Achievement Shop

  • Superior Lidium Heart
    • Level 80
    • None
    • Donor Shop (2500dp)

  • Titanium Heart
    • Level 100
    • None
    • Donor Shop (2500dp + Superior Lidium Heart)

  • Liquid-Metal Heart
    • Level 120
    • None
    • Donor Shop (2500dp + Titanium Heart)

  • *Outlaw Heart*
    • Level 150
    • None
    • Donor Shop (2500dp + Liquid-Metal Heart)

Totems
Similar to hearts, totems don't really have much in the way of progression but are extremely inefficient in terms of cost-benefit until maybe 50/60k+ stat. Each totem is around 9-10b is ridiculously expensive (inflation op) each due to them only being available every half year or so from a seasonal event red leaf high. I'm only listing the red leaf high totems currently as the shanghai totems aren't worth the effort due to them lasting only three days and then you are unable to get them again for seven days. If there's real interest I'll add it.

  • Honda Tadakatsu
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Seasonal Red Leaf High Event

  • Sanada Yukimura
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Seasonal Red Leaf High Event

  • Uesugi Kenshin
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Seasonal Red Leaf High Event

NX Equips
Simply Parotting here again from before, these aren't equips you get early on, maybe a bit later like at 40k stat due to them costing 1000 donor points each. If you do get to a point where you think they may be useful it is best to get the shoulder, belt and necklace first as they give more stats compared to the Aura ring.

  • Doom Shoulder
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Donor Shop (1000 dp)

  • Avenger Quiver Belt
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Donor Shop (1000 dp)

  • Helia Necklace
    • Level 0
    • No set effect
    • Donor Shop (1000 dp)
  • Aura Ring
    • Level 0 or 10
    • No set effect
    • Donor Shop (1000 dp)

Thank you for reading this guide on gearing up in aries. If you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or corrections feel free to post below. I hope this helps and if you have further questions comment below and I'll try to answer them.

Have a nice day.

For the pocket item progression you could also add a crafted charm with a potential on it thats probably better than pink holy cup atm?

Sorry but getting those charms with potentials is technically bug abuse. I wouldn't feel comfortable with telling people to break the rules.

Its been long time and still one of my favorite guides, Thank you

Seems inflation is getting more serious everyday and I am curious what is current cost of arcane umbra weapons

Is it like 70b-80b? Assuming from the mchaos scroll price has been doubled in few months

I've seen people buy full service at 100b recently.

Assuming from the picture, you're Cadena so you have to complete Cadena quests to open up other quests.
I only missing questline for GSE. I complete Cadena quests, but only one name "Shadows in Turmoil" can't start because bug or no code yet.
